A dragon sails along, feet tucked in mouth open in a growl…the body forming the shape of a curved short sword. It is 47 cm (19 inches) long and in overall fine condition.
It is said that these wooden swords were produced from the mid to late Edo period, in lieu of swords for those not allowed to carry weapons (all but samurai)...

A brush holder in the form of a tanto dagger (the pen is mightier than the sword?) of fine grained Kuwa wood featuring solid ivory details. The kozuka is simulated bamboo carved from black rosewood. The eyelet for the tie appears to be horn, and the ends are all ivory. A beautiful hand woven silk chord would attach it to the sash. It is 16 inches (40 cm) long and in fine condition.
The stand is for photography purposes and is not included.
