Antique Japanese Bizen-yaki Ceramic Koro Incense Burner
Please refer to our stock # MOR8155 when inquiring.
A beautiful early 20th century censer of burnished Bizen clay dating from the Taisho to early Showa period. The lid pierced with cherry blossoms is made from a blue-tinged clay (Aobizen), which simulates the traditional silver hoya, while the body has a dark buffed patina typical of Sangiri firing effects, with two beautifully sculpted beast head handles. It is 14.5 cm (6 inches) diameter, 12.5 cm (5 inches) tall including the lid and in excellent condition, enclosed in an old kiri-wood storage box.
