A beautiful depiction of the moon rising over a twilit copse of blue trees exhibited at the 40th Nitten by Arai Fumio titled Tsuki Akari (moonlight). Pigment on paper with a thin silk border and hardwood frame. Signed in gold in the lower left with the artists seal on back. The last photograph is of the catalog page from the Nitten. 215 x 155 cm. Overall excellent condition.
Arai Fumio was born in 1925 and attended the Kyoto University of Fine Arts studying under Nishiyama Hideo. He participated in the Seikosha Salon of Nishiyama Suisho until the death of Suisho, then moved to the Hakuto Art Group founded in the 1958 which was made up of young artists and stressed freedom from constraint. He remained an active member there throughout the 20th century. His work was also selected for display at the Nitten National Exhibition many times.
