A rare work by Hatta Sogaku decorated with raised goldfish among water plants stamped on the base and enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The round form rises and swirls into a slightly fluted six sided rim. It is 30.5 cm (12 inches) tall and in excellent condition, containing a (removable) brass liner. Hatta Sogaku (active in the early 20th century) was an artist from Kanazawa (Kutani region) trained under Suwa Sozan (from whom he takes his first character) who often studied and travelled in China.
