Kono Shuson Autumn Scroll

Rich autumn colors dye the forest surrounding a viewing platform on this silk painting by Kono Shuson enclosed in a signd wooden box titled Maple Brocade Mountains. Pigment on silk in a cloth border, The scroll is 49.5 x 183 cm (19-1/2 x 72 inches) and in excellent condition. Kono Shuson (1890-1987) Born in Ehime, he studied Nanga from 18 in Kyoto under Tajika Chikuson, becoming a founding member of the Nihon Nanga-in in 1921, eventually serving as the governor from 1960. He also was exhibited at the Bunten 12 times. He received the Kyoto order of cultural merit in 1984.
