A beautifully carved frog of Japanese cedar in an unusual posture with one leg extended, as if he is making great strides forward. It is 22 x 14 x 7 cm (8-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches) and in excellent condition, enclosed in a signed wooden box. The frog is an auspicious symbol in Japan, because the name frog (Kaeru) is a homonym for return.
