The Original Flak Jacket, an Edo period brigandine vest of iron kikko plates sewn over layers of rough hemp covered with leather. This type of inner armor was called a Manchira or Katabira, and the hexagonal iron plates are called Kikko (turtle shells). Excellent for absorbing a blow, as the impact would be spread out over the various plates. Some minor losses to the white sashiko strings between the plates, and a dark rust colored stain inside the left side, otherwise in very good condition.
