Antique Japanese Covered Lacquer Bowl
Please refer to our stock # MOR7107 when inquiring.
An elegant design of Rimpa style pine boughs growing out over a burnished red-range dome creates the lid for this Hinode Kashibachi (Rising Sun Sweets Dish) enclosed in the original wooden box dating from the early 20th century. The elongated branch itself is lead, with mother of pearl, silver and gold powders applied to the surface. Inside is textured black with swirling patterns in the lacquer and blossoms in mother of pearl. It is 20 cm (8 inches) in overall fine condition with some loss to the mother of pearl flowers inside and fissures in the inner lacquer surface (se close-up photos).
