The artisan has worked this burled wood to an unbelievably thin wafer in the shape of a Bushukan (Buddha’s Had Fruit) to create a tray for the Sencha Tea aesthete. A fantastic cut of wood, and beautifully worked with a thin lip, and even a leaf clinging to the underside. It is quite large at 55 cm (21-1/2 inches) long, and comes enclosed in an age darkened wooden box. There are some repairs to the wood visible on close inspection (see close-up photos).
