Antique Japanese Imari Porcelain Stand, Tigers
Four grinning tigers support the flat body of this porcelain stand covered in white with lapping blue chevrons circling the sides. The tigers stand in the style of the Manjirushi, symbol of eternity. I have never seen another piece like it. The stand is roughly 8-1/2 inches (21.5 cm) square, 4 inches (10 cm) tall, dating from the 19th century. Two of the beasts have lost an ear, and there is a crack in the neck of a third. Considering the intricacy and age I woud say that it is in remarkably good condition.
