Antique Gourd belonging to Zen Priest Takeda Mokurai
A gourd formerly in the possession of Zen priest Takeda Mokurai enclosed in a kiri-wood box titled and signed by Mokurai, the former head of Kenninji. The gourd is titled Fukurokuju (God of Longevity) typically depicted with an elongated head. There is an ivory ring attached with silk chord, the ring typically worn securingthe shoulder of a priests robes. It is enclosed in an antique wooden box The gourd is roughly 1 foot (30 cm) long and in fine condition. Gourds were traditioaly used for carrying drinks while outdoors or traveling. Another fine gourd with bone bung and wooden sagemon from the same collection will be included with this sale.
