Important Antique Sencha Tea Pot by Seifu Yohei III
A simple rough white tea pot accentuating the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi for use in Chinese style green tea by Seifu Yohei III enclosed in the original signed wooden box bearing the Teishitsu Gigei-In stamp (noting him as a member of the prestigious Imperial Art Academy). It is stamped on the base under the clear white glaze. The pot is 2 inches (5 cm) tall, 3 inches (8 cm) diameter and in fine condition. Seifu Yohei III (1851-1914) unlike many potters of his time, was low production and tenacious in his approach to perfection. What makes this piece so exceptional is not just the artist associated with it, but that the artist rarely made such large works. For his accomplishments he was honored as a member of the Imperial Art Academy (Teishitsu Gigei-In).
