Edo p. Japanese Gold Samurai War Battle Screen, A
A set of 19th century battle screens depicting scenes from the Heike wars in the 11th century. Gojo bridge, Dan-no-Ura and Ichinotani are all depicted, as well as many other famous episodes from that notorious time. The screens have been completely remounted without re-painting, bordered in dark silk with a black lacquered wooden frame. The screens have been completely remounted without re-painting, bordered in dark silk threaded with karakusa designs in gold thread with a red ko-beri border setting off the red threaded armors well. It features a black lacquered wooden frame and backing of dark blue paper decorated with dragon dials in black. Fine detail in a style consistent with the period. The screen measures 68 inches by 12 feet (173 x 376 cm). These screens are being sold as a set.
