| Black lacquer under applied gold makes a very striking combination on this Edo period Temple-like structure which would have originally housed a Buddhist image. Bifold doors on the front allowed limited viewing of the holy figure. The piece is roughly 3 feet (91 cm) tall, with the base 15 x 19 inches (38 x 48 cm). Overall it is very presentable with minor damage and a few missing roof members, dating from the Bunka Bunsei eras, early 19th century.
