Antique Japanese Porcelain Vase, Miura Chikusen
Scrolling cartouches decorate the sides of this elemental porcelain by important turn of the century Kyoto artist Miura Chikusen enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A slight blue tinges the sheer porcelain glaze with the cobalt lightly decorating the surface. This vase is 11 inches (29 cm) tall and in excellent condition, signed on the base Saigetsu-An Chikusen Zo. Likely the work of Miura Chikusen II (1882-1920). Chikusen I established the name on a grand scale (1853-1915), passing on the business to his son Chikusen II. Chikusen III headed the kiln from 1920 to 1931 when he turned the kiln over to the fourth generation (1911-1976) and changed his name to Chikuken. The kiln is currently headed by the fifth generation.
