Antique Japanese Suzuri Ink Stone carved from Roof Tile
A suzuri ink grinding stone, the basin sculpted from an ancient Kawara roof tile decorated with the remnants of painted flowers. It is roughly 10 x 8 inches (25 x 20 cm). The roof tile is likely from the Nara to Heian period, or possibly of earlier Chinese origin as items from the continent were traditionally highly revered.
