| A fine wan-gata chawan covered in thick rust-colored glaze forming five drips around the white clay of the base. The glaze appears predominately red, but is actually diffused with varying shades of yellow, black and olive, creating quite a sensational festival for the eyes, enhanced by the dark of the tea room. Imagine the yellows brought out by candle-light. High fired and thin walled, it is stamped on the base Kozan (the bright mountain). Likely from the kilns of Kyoto, the bowl is 6.3 cm (2-1/2 inches) tall, 12 cm (4-3/4 inches) diameter and in excellent condition, dating from the early 20th century and comes in a modern wooden box. | |||||||||
