Antique Japanese Chawan Tea Bowl
A nobori-fuji crest wraps over the rim of this 19th century chawan, the kodai foot quite small, a simple button cut and slightly sculpted. The white glaze has absorbed some color over time, creating a fine sense of antiquity. The simplicity of the bowl is contrasted by the sumptuous blue of the design. Likely from the kilns of Kyoto, the bowl is unsigned, 4-1/2 inches (11 cm) diameter, 3 inches (7.5 cm) tall and in perfect condition, enclosed in a modern wooden box.
