Antique Japanese Shino Chawan Tea Bowl, Kotenka
A robust Shino Chawan decorated with a traveler’s hat and walking stick; wiped on glaze under thick white feldspar revealing raw earth beneath. An excellent example of Shino ware signed and stamped KoTenKi (Old Hope of Heaven) on the base, the shattered glaze darkened with use creating a warm antique feel. The wheel-turned belted form is 7.5 cm (3 inches) tall, 10.5 cm (4-1/4 inches) diameter and in excellent condition, likely 75 to 100 years old. It comes in a modern wooden box.
