Japanese Silver Iris Blossom, Shobido Muneyoshi
A signed silvered image of an uprooted iris by resident artist Muneyoshi of the Osaka Art Studio Shobido enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The razor thin blades of grass spread like a Buddhist halo behind the single open blossom. The delicate flower is roughly 11 inches (28 cm) long and in fine condition, signed on the bulb. For lack of a jun-gin stamp it is unclear whether it is silver plate or solid silver, and so we are pricing it as the later. It is likely the blades, bulb and root are solid silver, the flower itself (judging from the yellow hue) some form of brass with hammered on silver.
