| A superb hand made bronze incense burner by designated Nihon Dento Kogeishi Inami Keishu (Yasuhisa, b. 1909) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Raised rivets and the six petal openings in the lid are ringed with fine silver thread, smooth and crisp against the mottle-textured bronze surface. It sits on a circular base pierced with rectangular windows and dates circa 1980. The Koro is roughly 5 inches (13 cm) tall, 4 inches (10.5 cm) diameter and in perfect condition. Keishu was one of Japans top rated metal artists. He apprenticed under Katori Masahiko (Living National Treasure) and made an early break when accepted to the 1930 Teiten National Exhibition (Bunten or Modern Nitten) followed the next year with an award at the Sculptural Metal-works Exhibition. Since, his list of exhibitions and awards is impressive, including the National Crafts Association Award and awards at the National New Traditional Metal Crafts Exhibition. | ||||||||||||
