Edo p. Japanese Sword Painting, Naming Parts
An Edo period hand-painted textbook image of a sword in formal scabbard describing the individual components mounted as a scroll. Pigment and ink on paper mounted in patterned blue brocade extended with solid blue and featuring wood rollers. It was likely originally part of a hand-scroll, one painting in a series used for teaching the names of sword parts. It measures 33-3/4 by 43-1/2 inches (85.5 x 110 cm). There are period stains to the paper, and three wrinkles vertically in the center. There is no box.
