Edo period Japanese Shino Kogo Tea Ceremony Incense Box
Iron and gray decorate the ashen sides of this splendid 18th to 19th century Shino Kogo incense box made for use in the Zen Tea Ceremony. The piece is 1-1/2 inches (4 cm) square and in fine condition, held in a chirimen shifuku silk bag and enclosed in the original age darkened wooden box. The slashes of light rise up through the red under-color, reminiscent of autumns dried grasses. A tiny masterpiece to be appreciated more the longer one sees it.
