Taisho Japanese Rising Sun and Waves Scroll, Kanzan
Crashing blue waves thrash under a faint red sun emerging from mornings mist on this antique scroll dated Taisho 11 (1923) enclosed in the original wooden box signed Kanzan. The silk canvas is bordered in copper brocade ending with large bone rollers. The Scroll is 26 by 85 inches (65 x 216 cm) and in good condition. It is likely the work of Tago Saichiro, a Nagano artist born in 1876 tutored under the watchful eye of one of the Meiji Greats, Shimomura Kanzan.
