RARE! 19th C. Japanese LACQUER TOKKURI FLASK
A very rare Tokkuri (sake flask) in the form of a 3-dimmensional costumed shojo drunken dancer hugging a giant decanter, the whole made of carved wood covered in togidashi lacquer dating from the late Edo or early Meiji period (mid to late 19th century). The lacquer-work is absolutely stunning, with the craftsman employing the whole gamut of lacquer techniques and textures. Both the breather plug and lid are present (the plug visible on top of the dancers head). Aside from the fact it is in excellent condition, I will let the photographs speak for themselves. It stands 7 inches tall, 6-1/2 inches wide (18 x 16.5 m). A museum quality item.
