| A gilded wooden Votive Tablet (Ihai) enclosed in an elaborate presentation marking the 10th year since the passing of the Meiji Emperor, the back dated Taisho 10 (1921). Composed of 11 elaborately worked wooden pieces covered genuine applied gold foil (not Dorokin gold paint). Sixteen petal chrysanthemums (symbols of Japans Imperial lineage) climb up the scrolling sides with a circular mirror imagined into the top piece. Mirrors are quite often used in Shinto religious displays. The piece is huge at 32 inches (81 cm) tall, the base 6-1/2 by 10-1/2 inches (16 x 26.5 cm) and all is in excellent condition. This would have likely been used for display in a shrine or temple. | |||||||||||
