RARE MODERN Japanese CERAMIC PAGODA, RAKUSAI
A fine modern Akahada ceramic okimono in the form of a two tiered Pagoda in the original box signed by Onishi Rakusai (1911-present). Each of the three pieces in this sculpture is made of very fine white clay covered in pale green glaze, which gathers shadow-like in the grooves and accentuates the corners. The underside is stamped Akahada Rakusai and the piece likely dates from within the last 30 years. Assembled it stands 10-1/2 inches (26.5 cm) to the peak. I have spoken with the kiln regarding this piece and have been assured this is by Rakusai, not an underling. Rakusai, a driving force behind the revitalization of Akahada, currently resides in Nara prefecture. His works have been displayed at the both local and National exhibitions including the Nitten, as well as internationally.
