A very fine suit of Edo period Armor adorned with a crest from the O-oka Clan and enclosed in the original wooden box marked with the name O-oka Tadatoshi. An accompanying inscription states that he (Tadatoshi) died in Bunkyu3 (1863). The O-oka clan were Daimyo over a 10,000-koku piece of land in Mikawa (modern day Nagoya), 76 Ri from Edo. The suit consists of an eight plate Suji Kabuto bearing the family crest on the fukigaeshi, with a four lame shikoro neck defense. The menpo is a Me-no-shita-ho with removable nosepiece. The moustache is no longer present. The do is in the Ni-mai-do style (a front and back plate joined by a hinge under the left arm) and features very unusual heavily worked leather inside a wire rope border along the shoulders, upper chest and under both arms. The leather features images of squirrels, leaves and chrysanthemum, the sign of the Emperor. Attached to both breasts is a Saihai-no-kan. The matching Suneate, Kote and Haidate (Sangu) are in the Shino style of splints joined by chain mail. There is a slight bit of bubbling to the lacquer on the visor of the helmet, and on the back plate of the Do. In addition there is slight damage to the lacquer on the gessan protecting the right hip. Aside from that and very minor chips or scratches typical of use, this armor is in excellent condition. The stand is for display purposes only and is not included in this sale however; the price does include fully insured International Express Shipping to Australia, North and Central America or Western Europe. |
