A natural stone basin inset into a wood base enclosed in an age darkened kiri-wood collectors box titled Nishiyama Sousai Sensei I-Ken (Beloved Ink Stone of Nishiyama Sousai). Inside the box lid is a long explanation in archaic characters written in what appears to be Kanbun, a hybrid language based on Chinese used by Scholars in the pre-to-early modern era. It is 17 x 8 x 7.5 cm (7 x 3 x 3 inches) and is in fine condition. The stone has been set into the wood, and sealed with some type of dark agent, possibly lacquer.
