Early 20th Century Scroll, White Snake, Kaoru
Please refer to our stock # F078 when inquiring.
A white snake, symbol of fortune, wraps around a sapling on this early 20th century scroll signed Kaoru, indicating it is likely the work of a female artist. Still retaining much of the Taisho chic, but likely moving into the 1930s, it is performed with pigment on silk and has been mounted in a gray cloth border. The scroll is 13-1/2 x 66-1/2 inches (34.5 x 168 cm) and in overall fine condition. Unfortunately in that era little records have been kept on female artists.
