Bats Descend from the heavens on the outside of this bowl by Kosai. The bold characters Fuku Ji Ten Rai (Pin Yin: fú zì tiān lái), “Action Brings Unexpected Luck”, are emblazoned within and it is dated 1932. Although it is signed I have not been able to crack the signature of the painter which appears to read Ungen or Shitsugen, The bowl is 7-1/2 inches (18.5 cm) diameter, 3-1/2 inches (9 cm) deep and in fine condition, enclosed in a period kiri-wood box.
