Rare Squirrels Ravishing a Grape Vine by Yoshimura Kokei
Please refer to our stock # F003 when inquiring.
Playful squirrels are silhouetted by the full moon as they frolic among the ripening fruit suspended from leafy vines. Light color and ink on silk in the original Edo period border. The scroll is 46.5 x 161 cm (18-1/2 x 63-1/2 inches). It is in entirely original condition. If desired remounting can be arranged.
Yoshimura Kokei (1769-1836) was a late pupil of Maruyama Okyo, and remembered as one of his best. He is noted for his unusual renditions of animals, both in pose and in depiction, harboring a tendency to the more stylized Nagasaki school.
