Hayashi Bunto Pine Tree and Full Moon Scroll
Please refer to our stock # L090 when inquiring.
The full moon rises, the light filtered through the needles of a soughing pine on this tranquil scene by important early 20th century artist Hayashi Bunto. It is performed with ink and pigment on silk in a superb silk mounting with bone rollers in the original signed wooden box dated 1935. The scroll is 20 x 85 inches (50 x 216 cm) and in overall fine condition, with some toning typical of age.
Hayashi Bunto (1882-1966) studied painting under Yamamoto Shunkyo, and became a preeminent Shijo school artist of the early 20th Century. Disillusioned with the Juried exhibitions, along with Kikuchi Keigetsu and Iguchi Kashu, he was instrumental in the founding of the Nihon Jiyu Gakkai. He is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, as well as many private collections.
