Please refer to our stock # ANR6961 when inquiring.
A single Japanese White-eye brushed in a furtive dash finds sanctuary among the stalks of fresh bamboo growing on this gilded silk four panel screen dating from the early 20th century signed Shunpo. It has been completely restored to original condition (without overpainting) and is in excellent condition. A perfect size for wall mounting, the screen is 5 feet (152.5 cm) high, 82-1/2 inches (210 cm) long. Yukimatsu Shunpo (1897-1962) was born in Oita and studied initially under Sakuma Chikuho before moving to Osaka to study under Himejima Chikugai. He exhibited with the Teiten (future Nitten) many times and received the Tokusen prize there in 1926 and 1927. The National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo holds work by the artist, as well as the Oita Art Museum which has more than a dozen paintings.
