A pair of swords in age tarnished brass decorate this votive offering tablet dating from the mid-19th century. Mounted on a straight-grain clear-cedar panel with decorative edges, it is 22 x 33 x 4 cm (8-1/2 x 13 x 1-1/2 inches). Entirely original, it is in overall fine condition, with marks consistent with age. On back is the name of the person who donated it Somura Sakuzo. Ema were works of art created as a gift to a shrine or temple to cull favour with the gods or give thanks for some success.
