Edo p. Tamba Chatsubo Tea Leaf Storage Jar
Please refer to our stock # TCR6939 when inquiring.
Rivulets of green glaze descend all sides of this unusually shaped jar, the bottom raw red Tamba clay dating from the Edo period. Diagonal paddle marks are clearly visible in a ring where the clay is supplanted by glaze. About the rim are four “mimi” ears for tying down the bung. The base is slightly concave and burnt to a rock like texture. The vessel is 11inches (28 cm) tall and in excellent condition, with no cracks or repairs, but one chip in the glaze on one of the tie points.
