Exquisite Hakudo Bronze Deer by Kitahara Sankei
Please refer to our stock # MOR6935 when inquiring.
A fabulous white bronze deer by Kitahara Sankei enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating to 1930. The recumbent creature appears completely relaxed, yet one nimble hoof makes ready for movement without notice. An identical work by the artist was exhibited at the 1930 Nitten National Exhibition (possibly this piece, it is indeterminate). See the photographs for images from the Nitten Catalog. The okimono is roughly 31 cm (12 inches) long and in excellent condition.
Kitahara Sankei was a graduate of the Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko (mod. Univrsity of Art) studied under Suda Nobuo and Katori Shushin. He exhibited with the Teiten and other National exhibitions, garnering much fame. Post war he also exhibited with the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Traditional Crafts Exhibition, where he would eventually serve as a juror.
