Antique Japanese Takatori Bottle Vase
Please refer to our stock # TCR6926 when inquiring.
A quashed bottle from the southern island of Kyushu of rich red sandy clay covered in a brush application of pale white supplanted by thick green overflowing from the neck. Here the artist has crushed in the sides before applying the glazes; a striking combination, and unusual for the typically refined style of Takatori. On the base are two stamps, one a swirl typical of the Agano region, the second a cartouche containing the character Taka. It is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) tall, roughly the same diameter and comes enclosed in a rough, age darkened wooden box likely from the opening of the 20th century, Meiji to Taisho period.
