RARE 19th C. Japanese ORIBE VASE, SIGNED
A late Edo or Meiji period (19th century) tall Oribe ichirinsashi vase of smooth clay covered in brown glaze with a dab of Oribe green at the mouth. The long vase is deeply striated and slightly squared off, with one side decorated with thick globs of glaze causing bubbling and a rougher texture. The base is blackened with age, and here and there stubborn grime accumulated over a century clings to the grooves in the surface. The base has been stamped by the artist or kiln. It stands 8-1/2 inches (22cm) tall, and over 3 inches (8cm) in diameter.
