A complex makie design covers this lacquered picnic set. It has a handle shaped like Mt. Fuji for ease of carrying, and contains a sake cup decorated with a shojo sake-sprite by famous painter and literati Hanabusa Iccho. All about are lattice designs and scrolling florals with blossoming peony. Edo period (18th-19th century) there is some wear to the lacquer typical of use, but it was obviously well cared for. It is 32.5 x 19 x 33 cm (12-3/4 x 7-1/2 x 13 inches).
