Precious Woods Antique Japanese Sencha Tea Box

A carrying box with bamboo handle consisting of four lift-out-doored compartments and three drawers for storing the utensils used in Sencha steeped tea. The doors and drawers are inset with panels of Kuro-gaki, a hardwood prized for it’s exquisite grain configurations. Late Meiji to Taisho period, early 20th century. The box is 41 x 17 x 41 cm (16 x 7 x16 inches) and is in overall fine condition. There are some dark stains on the top right corner consistent with a wet tea cup.
