A monochrome garden scene by Amano Hoko performed with ink on paper in a green cloth border featuringh dark-wood rollers. It is 64 x 207 cm (25 x 81-1/2 inches) and in fine condition, enclosed in a kiri-wood box. Amano Hoko (1824-1894) was born in Iyo, on the Island of Shikoku, Studied initially in Shikooku under Morita Shomin, then went to Kyoto where he learned the art of landcscape painting under the famed Nakabayashi Chikuto. In the third year of Meiji (1871) he went to Shanghai to study painting. After returning he was appointed a position at the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting during the Meiji period. Held in the British Museum and Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art among others.
