A superb Togidashi lacquer box of ro-riro black lacquer polished down to reveal a pair of extremely fine feathers in the center wrapped in the original cloth enclosed in the original signed wooden box by Tonami Sosai. The interior is covered in nashiji gold powder, with silver rims on the box edges. The box is 9-1/2 x 4-1/4 x 1 inches (24.5 x 11 x 2.5 cm) and in excellent condition dating from the first half of the 20th century. Tonami Sosai I of Kanazawa was active throughout the pre-war and immediate post-war era in Japan, fathering Sosai II in 1918. |
