Edo period Japanese Rimpa Floral Screen
Autumn grasses, vines and a spray of flora decorate this anonymous mid Edo period (18th-19th century) Rimpa Floral Screen. After two centuries the white gofun has worn, leaving only a ghostly trace which accentuates the screens age and beauty. It is performed with light color and pigment on paper with applied gold flake and has been completely remounted, bordered in colorful Edo period cloth in a black lacquered frame. Each panel is 34-1/2 x 61-1/2 inches (88 x 156 cm).
