Sharp winter landscape ink and light color on silk contained in a green copper silk border embellished with flowering vines and ivory rollers. The scroll is 22 x 82 inches (56.5 x 209 cm) and in overall fine condition. Some minor age spotting just below the signature. Otaki Uzan (1871-1939), a Nanga artist from Yamagata studied under Kawamura Ukoku before establishing himself in Tokyo. Often prized in the Japanese Nansogakai and the Nihon Bijutsu Kyokai, and was also exhibited at the Bunten National Exhibition. |
