Two crushed silver panels backed with cloth patterned with black crows and golden hototogisu birds enclosed in wooden frames with wiped on red lacquer finish inset with tsuba sword guards and knife handles. A bronze vessel in the Tsurukubi (crane-neck) form by world famous bronze artist Hata Zoroku (1896-1984) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The form is unusually elongated, an elegant version of the common Tea Ceremony Shape. This piece is 11-1/2 inches (29 cm) tall and in fine condition, dating from the early to mid 20th century.

Pitted black drapes over the fine orange-peal texture of this Kuro-Raku Chawan by Higaki Soraku I (d. 1983) enclosed in the original wooden box endorsed within. The bowl is 5 inches (13 cm) diameter, 3-1/2 inches (8 cm) tall and in excellent condition. A beautifully formed bowl. Soraku took over the Katsura Kiln, and built it in its current form in 1955 making the decision at that time to concentrate almost uniquely upon tea ceremony wares along with his wife Sohaku. A set of five antique Kenzan style plates decorated with Momiji maples on crackled cream colored glaze from Inuyama, outside Nagoya, enclosed in an antique wooden box. In the center of each dish is a character Sakigake in a green dial (Sakigake is the brightest star in the big dipper), meaning to excel above all others. They are 8 inches (19.5 cm) diameter and in fine condition. Very rare to find a complete set of dishes like this.

The Japanese Idea of wabisabi is presented here in this 19th century mizusashi fresh water container of creamy-white porcelain decorated with a rambling landscape punctuated by a loan scholar staring out over the seas. The raw, hard-wood lid is custom made to fit the slightly out of square form and the pot comes in a wooden box made from an old sugar crate. A Tenmoku Tetsu-e Cha-Tsubo decorated with pale characters over the dark glaze from the Tetsuzan Kiln with gold lined ivory lid enclosed in the original signed wooden box wrapped in a stamped shifuku cloth bag. The Chaire is just less than 4 inches (9.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition dating from the first part of the 20th century.

A red Raku Chawan inscribed with the Ichigyosho Tea phrase Seifu hakki yoku ni shozu by Zen Priest Kutsu Deiryu enclosed in a wooden box. The bowl is 4-1/2 inches (11.5 cm) diameter and in fine condition. Kutsu Deiryu (1895-1954) was born into a military family, and was raised from an early age in the strict environment until being diagnosed with Tuberculosis. A Shino glazed bowl inscribed with the characters Jutoku by Zen Buddhist Priest Yamada Mumon enclosed in the original cedar box signed by the potter and made in 1974 for the 500th anniversary of the completion of Tokuju-Ji Temple. Soot stained bamboo (susudake) ripples about the rim of this intricate woven hand-made paper lined tea room charcoal basket by ChikuOSai.
