A stately Bijin stands in aristocratic Nara-era costume before faintly brushed trees in this quiet scene by Kikuchi Keigetsu (1879-1955) enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Reijin in-turn enclosed in a red lacquered Nijubako box. A monkey snarls from the lower branch of a massive cedar in this museum quality ink and light color on silk painting dated 1902 by important Meiji artist Okutani Shuseki. The scene is dominated by the power of the tree, so large it does not fir on the wide canvas. A fine pale ceramic dish, the center of the plate swelling like the Autumn moon, by Eiraku Zengoro XII decorated with a poem over autumn grasses signed on the reverse Baido (Asani Baido) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The dish is 8-3/4 (22.3 cm) diameter and is in perfect condition, stamped on the base Zengoro. A hand formed white glazed sake cup covered in blue script by the female artist Tomioka Haruko, wife of Tomioka Tessai, enclosed in the original wooden box signed the 83 year old Haruko and dated September of 1929. The cup is just over 3 inches (8 cm) diameter, 1 inch (3 cm) tall and in perfect condition. A dragon gallivants about the white crackled surface of this bun-shaped Mizusashi hand painted by important Meiji period artist Imao Keinen enclosed in a signed wooden box. Like a wisp of smoke, the mythic beast floats in the air, whiskers flowing behind in the wind, his body a soft, semitransparent single stroke of gray ink. A massive exhibited celadon vase by Makuzu Kozan measuring 47 cm tall, 40 cm diameter signed on the base. A very rare opportunity to find something so large by this artist. It is published in the 1980 book Yokohama Makuzu Yaki, Miyagawa Kozan Ten Zuroku (number 5) and is in excellent condition. It comes in a modern cloth covered tag-board box (unsigned).

Goma speckles and ash cover the top of this beautiful rolled lotus leaf dish dating from the later Edo (19th c.) enclosed in an old wooden box. The veins of the leaf stand out prominently on the back and underside. The bottom also shows charring and heat scorching in sharp contrast to the thick deposit of ash glaze on the top. The dish is 30 x 19.5 x 6 cm (12 x 8 x 2-1/2 inches). There are 2 old repairs to the edges, otherwise is in fine condition.
