A slightly larger than life Japanese Bronze figure of Amiddha Nyorai seated in a gesture of mercy. The figure stares unperturbed past the rankles in the world about, calling to us for a moment of tranquility. Although possibly older, I feel it is likely an immediate post-war replacement for one melted down during the Second World War, likely from a cast of the original. The face is certainly equal to any Edo sculpture, far superior to the mundane works commonly seen today. With base the imag ...click for details

Convoluted forms fill the age grayed pages of this book of scholarly imagery titled Ko-KaSai Book of Clouds and Roots (Ko-Kasai, Unkon Cho); 10 paintings of contemplation stones surrounded by descriptions and observations in running cursive script. Each page is a masterpiece and invites us into a very personal realm of impression. Every verse is punctuated with one or more of the artists signatures (Unryu, Kasai, Gyokuman, Kasai-Gyokuman, Gyokuman-Unryu) and a combination of stamps reading Gyo ...click for details

Alternating pages of paintings and calligraphy show the mastery of brush for which Kodojin is known. Elegant running cursive lines and strict crisp characters extol virtues between seasonal imagery. The scene of medaka fish is particularly compelling in its freshness and sense of life while the stark ancient pine is unmistakably Kodojin. The snail in soft color is quite an unusual scene signed with his poetic name Haritsu. The book is covered in sea blue satin with a signed dark blue sleeve ...click for details
