A set of ten cups decorated with a unique poem and painting of the Five Nobles, (Bamboo, Orchid, Plum, Pine and Chrysanthemum, also known as the five Gentlemen). The cups were made by Mikuni Tanyu, and decorated by Nishimura Goun. Perfectly formed, each is delicately painted with a short verse and one of the five representatives of scholarly virtue. A murashi-do Bronze tray decorated with the incarnations of four gods by Katori Masahiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The tray is 25.5 x 13.5 cm (10 x 5 inches) and in fine condition. A beautiful landscape accompanied by verse by Tanomura Shochiku decorates this bowl by Heian Kinseki of the Shingetsu-An studio enclosed in the original wooden box signed by both artists. The bowl is just over 7 inches (18 cm) diameter, 3-1/4 inches (8 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Tanomura Shochiku (b. 1891) was a literati painter, grandson of the illustrious Tanomura Chokunyu. He studied under both his grandfather and his father Tanomura Shosai as well as Tanaka Hakuin.

A pair of stylized Bronze Inari Shrine guardians dating circa 1930 giving a distinct Art Deco feel. They are 15 inches (38 cm) tall, 10-1/2 x 6 inches (27 x 15.5 cm) at the base and in superb condition. A hole in the base attests to where they were once attached to a further pedestal.
