Truly it must be held to understand, this is a stunning Karamono ceramic Tenmoku Chawan acquired from a private collection in Japan, the thin body covered in mirror smooth deep molasses colored glaze. It comes wrapped in a Meiji period silk bag, enclosed in an ancient wooden box. Although Ming is the most well known period for Chinese porcelain, Stoneware did not reach a Zenith until the Ching Dynasty...

An absolutely wild heavy ceramic figure modeled in the form of a trickster with dice, his coat tails flying in excitement as he hawks his game on the street. From the very lively expression to the numbers on the tiny dice and the wood grain on the bench, it is one of the most highly detailed non-porcelain figures I have yet seen.
